GEORGIA VILLAGE Jonesboro Atlanta
Michael Lee Design joined an experienced team to plan and design Georgia Village, in Jonesboro, Georgia (near Atlanta). The project capitalizes on the many of the historic, cultural, and natural features that make Georgia and the South the rich and diversified region it is today. The project was a "living museum", with live actors playing right alongside guests to re-create the "Golden Years" of the South. Clayton County Visitors Bureau requested that MLD increase tourism by creating an immersive, interactive, and story-driven destination.
Finding a way to help guests understand the conflicted stories of the Civil War and the near-destruction of the United States proved to be a true challenge. With the horrors of slavery and the resulting conflicts that yet remain between the white and black citizens of the area, Georgia Village aimed to address these issues and more in engaging and deeply meaningful ways. MLD was ready to dive right in and explore story and attraction ideas that would directly support the themes and goals of the project.
MLD developed a library of concepts that would address the instructive and thematic goals of the various components of the project. A master plan was developed, which included RD&E venues, museum exhibits, interactive "shows", street performances.
